چکیده

Objectives: Needle electromyography (EMG) has an important role in the diagnosis of poliomyelitis. Since needle EMG is a painful and time consuming procedure, selecting most effective muscles for important. We aimed to determine clinically or subclinically affected regions polio survivors by examining minimum number with EMG. Methods: Polio weakness at least one limb were included this retrospective cohort study. The extremities divided into two groups: 1) Group 1: Medical Research Council score ≤ 1 muscle, 2) 2: Clinically unaffected mildly moderately that do not meet criteria 1. findings analyzed. Results: Twenty-nine 352 reviewed. 57 lower thirty-two upper There was no extremity meeting Thirty-eight amplitudes durations motor unit action potentials (MUAPs) different between (p > 0.05). Among 2 extremities, amplitude duration MUAPs higher deltoid vastus lateralis compared other muscles, respectively = 0.002 p 0.003 muscles; 0.005 < 0.001 muscles). Conclusions: Using findings, algorithm made regions. Thus, can be identified applying muscles.

Steps of the Needle Electromyography Examination

Insertional activity is examined by moving the needle through the muscle briefly and observing the crispness, size, and duration of the electrical potentials produced. These potentials are mechanically evoked injury potentials due to the advancement of the needle. After a brief, small movement of the needle, insertional activity will usually persist no more than 300 ms. However, this duration i...

Needle electromyography.

Physiologic assessment of diseases of the motor unit from the anterior horn cells to the muscles relies on a combination of needle electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS). Both require a unique combination of knowledge of peripheral nervous system anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, diseases, techniques, and electricity is necessary. Successful, high-quality, reproducible EM...

Diagnosis of Zygomaticus Muscle Paralysis Using Needle Electromyography With Ultrasonography

A 22-year-old woman visited our clinic with a history of radiofrequency volumetric reduction for bilateral masseter muscles at a local medical clinic. Six days after the radiofrequency procedure, she noticed a facial asymmetry during smiling. Physical examination revealed immobility of the mouth drawing upward and laterally on the left. Routine nerve conduction studies and needle electromyograp...

Hematoma risk after needle electromyography.

INTRODUCTION Although needle electromyography (EMG) appears to be a relatively safe procedure based primarily on clinical experience, no evidence-based guidelines exist for EMG procedures in patients taking anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications. We sought to determine whether there is an increased risk of hematoma formation after EMG of potentially high-risk muscles in patients taking antic...
